Is the economic chaos of the past year merely another turn of the business cycle, or does it herald a fundamental restructuring of the economic order – the rise of "the new normal"?
This week, Wayne talks to Charles Helliwell about his contentious view that there is no new normal – or at least, not yet. Nothing has really changed, he argues, because nothing has happened which is truly seismic enough to really shake the cobwebs of complacency out of the most of us. Why? Because we've not really been exposed to enough pain to want to make us do anything significantly different to the day-to-day norm.
